Independence

We all like to call ourselves independent –

it’s seen in a positive light by the world and ascribing to a positive characteristic is simply common sense.

But what does it mean to be truly independent? It means more than just having emotional strength. It means having no ties to hold you back. And that, my friends, is hard to achieve. Whether it be your family, your friends, your love,  there’s always something to keep us grounded and hold us back from achieving true independence.

It sounds insane to think that to truly be independent, we would have to let go of our friendships, our families and our love. But it isn’t true independence till you are alone in your fight for physical and emotional survival.

And maybe true independence isn’t as good a thing as we think it is because what is the point of life if you haven’t given your dreams up for someone who counts.
